Mid Maryland Tryouts Information
Thank you for your interest in the Urbana Middle School Basketball "Mid-Maryland" teams! Attached to this message is an updated flyer with updated times and locations. Below is more
information about these teams, the tryouts, and logistics:
Please arrive 15 minutes early to check in. In order to tryout you must have registered online by October 13th.

- Players will be evaluated on skill, effort, coachability, teamwork, and attitude.
- Each player will have the opportunity to demonstrate fundamental skills (dribbling, passing, shooting, defense) and game play awareness through scrimmages.
- Evaluations will be conducted by middle school coaches and evaluators to ensure fairness.
- Players must also remain academically eligible with no failing grades and a minimum 2.0 GPA (Frederick County, MD. Policy)
- Player Code of Conduct- players will show respect and exhibit good sportsmanship.
Team Selection
- After tryouts, all head coaches will meet to review evaluations.
- Roster announcements will be shared by each head coach. Please make sure you are checking your email provided during registration.
What to Bring
- Basketball shoes and athletic gear
- Water bottle
- A great attitude and hustle
Please DO NOT bring a personal basketball.

Tryout Dates- please read carefully! ALL Players must attend night #1 of tryouts. Players will be notified after night one if they are invited back for night two of tryouts by the teams head coach.
- All 5th grade boys attend 5th / 6th grade tryouts on night #1 October 21st and for night #2 October 22nd players will be notified to attend by the coach. All tryouts for 5th/6th will be at Urbana Middle School.
- Boys 6th / 7th grade attend JV tryout night #1 on October 15th at Urbana High School Aux Gym.
- Boys 7th grade that do not make the team night #1 will not return for night #2 and will be notified by the coach.
- Any 6th grade boy that doesn’t make the team during JV tryouts night #1 on October 15th will be told to attend the 5th / 6th grade night #1 tryout on October 21st.
- Any 6th grade boy who makes it to JV tryout Night #2 on October 20th and doesn’t make JV, a pass on attending Night #1 on 5th / 6th grade will be given and the player should come on October 22nd. The primary reason is that these players would have already had two tryouts and we don’t want to make them come 4 nights to make a team.
- All 5th/6th/7th grade girls attend JV tryouts night #1 on October 16th and for night #2 October 17th players will be notified to attend or not by the head coach. All tryouts for girls JV and Varsity will be at Urbana Middle School.
- Varsity tryouts- must attend night #1
We look forward to seeing your player at the tryouts! Middle School tryouts will be closed gym. Only coaches and players will be permitted inside.

Below you will find the information needed to sign up for our 2025-26 Urbana Rec Winter Youth Basketball League. The league will consist of 1st- 2nd Co-Ed teams and 3rd-8th boys and girls teams. Urbana Youth Basketball in affiliation with the Urbana Recreation Council (URC) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote, supervise, and provide a safe and secure recreational athletic program for our youth in Frederick County.
Youth will have fun playing basketball while learning the fundamentals of the game. We strive to provide a rich environment that fosters the development of fundamentals while also advancing skills in teamwork, discipline, friendship and sportsmanship. The youth basketball league is for novice to experienced players who wish to learn while playing in a recreational atmosphere.
Volunteer head coaches are needed and volunteer assistant coaches are welcome. The regular winter season runs from December to March, with teams practicing each week and playing a game each weekend. Practices will start in November.
Individuals will be assigned to teams as space allows. Placement of individuals is contingent on sufficient registrations to form a team and the recruitment of a volunteer coach. After teams have been formed, coaches will contact the players to confirm the location and time for practices will be communicated through TeamSnap.
We are very excited about the interest and enthusiasm for the Winter Basketball League and look forward to another great season of player development.
Youth Winter 2025-26 Rec Registration Link below: Registration will open on Friday September 26th 9:00am and will close October 26th as rosters are formed by November 1st.

Greetings URC Spring Boys Basketball Families: Below you will find the Boys Division evaluation schedule for the 2024 Urbana Rec Spring Basketball League. At this point, the league is shaping up to have 3 divisions: 3rd/4th grade, 5th/6th grade, 7th/8th grade. Evaluations/Draft/Team Assignments: As a previously stated goal and mission of this league, player development and team parity is paramount. These evaluations (NOT tryouts) will allow coaches to properly evaluate the players against their peers so that they can allocate them across the teams and divisions to help ensure parity. We ask that you make it a priority for your child to attend their scheduled session. Once this process occurs team assignments will be made. The schedule is as follows: Wednesday, 3/19/25 Group: 3 – 4th Grade BOYS Location: Urbana Elementary School Time: Check-in starts 6:00p. Evaluation starts 6:15p to 7:05p. Since the Urbana Basketball Association / Urbana Rec Council is an extension of the Frederick County Parks and Recreation organization we are required to have all of our coaches (head and assistants) complete a background check for each sport season and abide by the Coaches Code of Conduct. Practices are twice a week and games are on Saturday’s and/or Sunday’s thru the first week of June.
