URC Winter REC BASKETBALL
Urbana Recreational Council Winter Basketball for the 2026-2027 Winter season will open registration September 12th at 8:00am. Please visit Home - Urbana Recreation Council.
We will be participating in the All Area Basketball League (AABL) this winter. Teams are available for Elementary and Middle School ages. We do not offer a High School Age Division. Divisions will be Grades 1/2 Co-Ed, Grades 3/4 Boys & Girls, Grades 5/6 Boys & Girls and Grades 7/8 Boys and Girls. Registration will open and have a limited number for each division.
We encourage players trying out for our Mid Maryland Middle School teams to register for URC Winter Basketball as teams will not be selected for Mid Maryland until tryouts are completed in mid October. If a player registers and makes the Mid Maryland Middle School team a refund will be provided.
Don’t miss out! We are excited for the Urbana Hawks to get back on the court.
The Season starts December 12, 2026 and will run through February 2027. Practices will start in November and teams will be announced using TeamSnap after registration closes. The season includes 8 games and an end of season tournament.

COACHING

Background checks will be required for every volunteer coach. We expect all volunteer coaches to demonstrate respect and follow our URC code of conduct at all times.
Mid Maryland Open Gyms will be held at Urbana Middle School from 6:15-8:30pm.
STRONG ADVANCED PLAYERS WILL PLAY IN THE MID MARYLAND LEAGUE WHICH IS A PREMIER, HIGHLY COMPETITIVE MIDDLE SCHOOL AGE LEAGUE. New players with limited experience are encouraged to sign up for our recreation winter teams.
Once a week the open gyms will give participants a chance to workout prior to Mid Maryland Tryouts that will be scheduled in October.
Boys grades (6th-8th) September 9, September 16, September 23, and September 30th on Wednesday evenings.
Girls grades (6th-8th) September 10, September 17, September 24, and October 1st on Thursday evenings.
Mid Maryland Coaches will lead the open gym workout sessions. Due to limited space, these open gyms will be closed to parents entering the gyms. Players will need proper athletic gear, a labeled water bottle, and a great mindset. Basketball shoes must be clean indoor court shoes.
Players must be registered and complete payment using TeamSnap to attend.
