Urbana Hawks Youth Wrestling is a USA Wrestling chartered club.

About Our Program

Our program is a member of both the Mid-Maryland Wrestling League (MMWL) and the Maryland Junior Wrestling League (MJWL). The MMWL individual match format league consisting of 16 teams within the Frederick County area, will all meets being held within 25 miles of Frederick City. This is primarily for our beginner, novice, and intermediate wrestlers. The MJWL is a dual format competition league consisting of 20 teams within Montgomery, Frederick, Carroll, Howard, and Baltimore Counties, with meets and tournaments held typically within 50 miles of Urbana, Maryland. MJWL is for our intermediate, advanced, and elite wrestlers.

In addition to strict teaching of fundamentally sound wrestling techniques, the coaching staff highlights the importance of effort, work ethic, respect, conduct, discipline, sportsmanship, and overall attitude. These lessons are not just stressed within the wrestling room, but our student athletes are expected to carry these life lessons outside of wrestling and uphold these standards within the classroom and at home.

Wrestling provides a fantastic and unique opportunity for any athlete to challenge themselves physically and mentally, like no other sport can provide. Although there is a slight team aspect to wrestling, much of this sport is an individual success/failure sport. Wrestlers step onto the mat by themselves and rely on their own skills and will to successfully overcome their opponent. Wrestling teaches athletes resilience, knowing that after a win, they are the sole reason for that victory. However, it also humbles an athlete, after a loss, knowing that there is no one else to place blame on for the outcome of a match. These mental and physical strains allow wrestlers to grow and become stronger, with that strength carrying over into their lives for years to come.
